Human beings live their existences between two realms.
The material realm, the one we can touch, see, hear, the one we can sense.

And the intelectual realm, the one we only know ourselves and exists only in our heads, we can not share it fully, we can not ask some one to visit us in this world, in this world we create our ideas, we keep our memories, and everything we think of.

So therefore we had two "lifes" (to put it into words)

In the one we can sense(material world), our identities depend on our body, face and things we create(artwork, cars etc...) along with some other things.

In the one only we can know(unmaterial world) the hole world within it becomes our identity, our dreams, the ideas about our environment, the way we think of others, our dreams, etc... Talk us about ourselves and control the way we relate to the real world.
